MQA Bursary Scheme Online Application

The mining industry is one of the most crucial sectors of any economy. It not only contributes significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of a country but also provides employment opportunities to millions of people worldwide. However, the industry requires a skilled workforce to operate effectively and efficiently. To address this need, the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) has initiated a bursary scheme to support the education of aspiring mining professionals in South Africa.

About the MQA Bursary Scheme

The MQA bursary scheme was established to increase the participation of students in the mining and minerals sector. Presently, the scheme continues to support students by providing them with opportunities to pursue careers in this field at Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges. MQA bursaries are accessible to students enrolled in universities, Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, and universities of technology. The bursary programme encompasses full coverage of tuition and registration fees, as well as residence fees or living costs for those staying off-campus. Additionally, it includes provisions for books, stationery, and a toolkit allowance for each bursar per semester.

The MQA Bursary Scheme is a financial assistance programme that supports students who are studying towards a mining-related qualification at a South African tertiary institution. The scheme aims to provide opportunities for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the mining industry but lack the financial means to do so.

How Much is the Bursary Fund?

The MQA Bursary covers the full cost of tuition, accommodation, and prescribed textbooks. In addition, students also receive a monthly allowance to cover living expenses. The bursary amount is determined based on the cost of the course, and it varies from one institution to another. However, the maximum amount awarded is R120 000 per annum.
