What is the LGSETA Bursary Amount?

The LGSETA Bursary Scheme funds tuition fees, accommodation, meals, and prescribed textbooks. The amount of funding available varies depending on the programme and the institution at which it is offered.

For undergraduate programmes, the maximum bursary amount is R60,000 per year. For postgraduate programmes, the maximum bursary amount is R100,000 per year.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the LGSETA bursary scheme, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Individuals eligible for this opportunity include South African students and those holding permanent residence status.
  2. Eligible candidates encompass university, University of Technology, and TVET Colleges (NATED programmes) students, as well as Grade 12 learners who have received acceptance or provisional acceptance from higher education institutions.
  3. Consideration is extended to students enrolled in courses or qualifications aligned with the local government sector.
  4. Priority will be given to studies associated with the sector priority occupations and interventions (SPOI) List, as detailed in Annexure A on the LGSETA website.
  5. Funding is exclusively available for full-time students.
  6. This application and/or registration window pertains to the next academic year.

Required Documents

  • Valid and certified identification document (ID).
  • Documentation verifying the highest qualification attained.
  • An affidavit as proof of unemployment.
  • Evidence of registration or an acceptance letter from the educational institution.
  • Confirmation of residence and the enrollment form (system-generated).

How to Apply for LGSETA Bursary 

To apply for the LGSETA bursary scheme, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the LGSETA Bursary application portal.
  2. Log in to the portal, or create an account if you don’t have one.
  3. After that, click on Register to access the application form.
  4. Complete the application form and attach all required supporting documents.
  5. Submit your application on the portal.

Approval Criteria

1. Approval of bursary applications is contingent upon the LGSETA Accounting Authority’s review.

2. The distribution of these bursaries hinges on fund availability and applicants fulfilling all criteria outlined in the program’s funding policies and procedures.

3. LGSETA retains the authority to, at its discretion, entirely or partially cancel the discretionary grant funding window.

4. If you haven’t received communication from us within three (3) months of submitting your application, kindly regard your application as unsuccessful.
