About the CHIETA Bursary Fund

What is the Bursary Amount?

The amount of the CHIETA bursary varies depending on the level of study and the specific programme. However, as a general rule, the bursary covers the full cost of tuition fees, prescribed books, and a stipend for living expenses. The bursary is renewable annually, provided that the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Who is Eligible for CHIETA Bursary Fund?

To be eligible for the CHIETA bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have a minimum of 60% in Mathematics and Physical Science in grade 12 or equivalent
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrolment in one of the programmes covered by the bursary
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be willing to sign a service contract with the CHIETA upon completion of their studies

In addition to these requirements, preference is given to applicants who come from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as those who are studying at designated South African universities.

How to apply

To apply for the CHIETA bursary, applicants must follow these steps:

  1. Download and complete the CHIETA bursary application form from the CHIETA website.
  2. Attach certified copies of the following documents:
    1. ID document
    2. Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
    3. Proof of acceptance or registration at a designated South African university
    4. Proof of income of the applicant’s family or guardian
  3. Submit the application form and supporting documents to the CHIETA via email or post.

When is the Application Closing Date?

Applications for the CHIETA bursary are open from 1 September to 31 October each year. Late applications will not be considered.
