Standard Bank Chairman’s Scholarship
The program, which was established in 2013, intends to provide educational enrichment as well as worldwide exposure to the next generation of African talent. Through the scholarship, the Standard Bank Group hopes to establish a network of African leaders who will impact and champion Africa’s growth and sustainability, as well as exert global influence through visionary leadership.
How Does the Scholarship Work?
The scholarship allows scholars to pursue a postgraduate Master’s degree at one of the UK’s best universities, such as Oxford, Cambridge, or the LSE. After finishing your studies, you’ll be a part of the Standard Bank Africa Chairman’s Scholarship Alumni Network, which brings together professionals, activists, and thinkers who are passionate about Africa’s well-being and progress.
The program has nine scholarships available each year. To be eligible for the scholarship, you must first apply for your Masters at the University of Cambridge, LSE, or the University of Oxford online, indicating that you require funding. After being accepted for your Masters, you will proceed to the scholarship area.
What Does the Scholarship Cover?
The Standard Bank Chairman’s Scholarship covers the following:
- full tuition fees,
- stipend to cover your living costs,
- accommodation,
- travel, and
- visa costs.
Who is Eligible for the Standard Bank Chairman’s Scholarship?
To qualify for the scholarship program, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a graduate student from one of Standard Bank’s African operational nations.
- Showcase an outstanding academic record.
- Have qualified on your own merit for a one-year Master’s program at either the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, or the LSE.
- Be intellectually exceptional, and enterprising, and show a natural potential for business and leadership across disciplines essential to Africa’s growth and sustainability.
How to Apply for the Standard Bank Chairman’s Scholarship

If you are applying to Cambridge, it is critical that you list Magdalene College as your first preference in order to be considered for the scholarship.
Selection Criteria
The Chairman’s Scholarship is accessible to graduate students from any of the 20 Standard Bank Group operational countries who can demonstrate extraordinary academic merit, entrepreneurship, and business and leadership excellence. Here is a list of the eligible countries:
