About Distinguished Young Women Scholarship

Distinguished Young Women is the largest and most established scholarship program for high school female students. In the previous year, they distributed over $1 billion in national scholarships and cash tuition aid.

Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Programs

There are two types of scholarships: college-granted scholarships (more than 100 colleges and universities offer scholarships to program participants; several scholarships are available just for participating in a local or state program) and cash tuition scholarships, which can be used at any accredited institution of higher learning.

Cash Scholarships

Via the Distinguished Young Women nationwide programs, participants won more than $2.1 million in cash scholarships last year. You can use this money to cover your tuition, accommodation and board, textbooks, and other educational costs (like lab fees or a computer).

College-Granted Scholarships

Additionally, Outstanding Young Women collaborates with more than 100 schools and universities nationwide to offer participants chances to further their education. Any participant in a local or state program is eligible for some scholarships.

Here are some of the college-granted scholarship programs:

Carrol College

  • National Scholastic Winner
    • Amount: $24,000, renewable for up to four years
    • Requirements: Maintaining a 2.0 or higher college GPA
  • Any State Scholastic Winner
    • Amount: $22,000, renewable up to four years
    • Requirements: Maintaining a 2.0 or higher college GPA
  • Any Local Scholastic Winner
    • Amount: $21,000, renewable for up to four years
    • Requirements: Maintaining a 2.0 or higher college GPA

Chapman University

  • Presidential Scholarship Award to any State Winner and any Overall Scholastics Winner at the state level
    • Amount: $32,000 annually/$128,000 total award, renewable for up to four years
    • Requirements: Maintain full-time attendance and established GPA requirements

Hood College

  • Distinguished Young Woman of America and any State Winner
    • Amount: Full tuition, renewable for up to four years
    • Requirements: Maintenance of a 3.25 GPA
  • Any Distinguished Young Woman Participant
    • $112,000 Presidential scholarship ($28,000* minimum annually), renewable up to four years
    • Requirements: Maintenance of a 3.25 GPA

Juniata College

  • Any Participant
    • Amount: $20,000-$36,000 per year, renewable for up to four years
    • Requirement: Maintaining a 3.0 GPA
  • Distinguished Young Women of America
    • Amount: $2,500, renewable for up to four years (additional)
    • Requirement: Maintaining a 3.0 GPA
  • Any State Winner
    • Amount: $1,000, renewable for up to four years(additional)
    • Requirement: Maintaining a 3.0 GPA
  • Any participant
    • Amount: $500, renewable for up to four years (additional)
    • Requirement: Maintaining a 3.0 GPA
