SVA Scholarship Programs to Apply For 

Student Veterans of America partners with organizations to provide scholarship opportunities for students who wish to further their education. They offer up to $10,000 in scholarships to qualified students. Here is a list of the SVA scholarship programs to apply for.

Comcast NBCUniversal-SVA Scholarship

Two college veterans who are interested in the entertainment industry and are enrolled in any major will benefit from the Comcast NBCUniversal-SVA Scholarship.

How Much is the Comcast NBCUniversal-SVA Scholarship?

Two eligible Comcast NBCUniversal-SVA Scholarship applicants will receive $12,000 each.

Who is Eligible?

1. Be enrolled in a two- or four-year approved American institution of higher learning to pursue a bachelor’s or graduate degree;
2. Be enrolled for the current school year;
3. Provide proof of your military service. (If you intend to use your DD214, we advise redacting all but the last four digits of your social security number before uploading to help safeguard your identity)
4. Have a minimum of 3.0 GPA;

Required Documents

2. Transcript
3. A short essay answering the following:
   1. Tell us about your previous leadership experiences, whether in high school or during your service. How have you carried these experiences forward in your classroom or in other university activities?
   2. Why are you interested in NBCUniversal and a career in the entertainment industry? If you had to pick a specific function, which one are you most interested in and why (for example marketing, public relations, production, development, business, etc.)?

When is the Scholarship Application Date?

Applications for the Comcast NBCUniversal-SVA Scholarship open in January and close in April.

Google SVA Scholarship

Google works with SVA every year to give scholarships to veterans as part of its mission to help them. The program helps veterans who are going to American universities to get degrees in computer science.

How Much is the Google SVA Scholarship?

Qualified applicants will receive $10,000 for the next academic year.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the SVA scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

1. Be enrolled at a college or university currently as an undergraduate or graduate student
2. Intend to enroll or be accepted as a full-time student at an American university for the next academic year
3. Maintain a high level of performance in school
4. Earning a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
5. A current student veteran (including National Guard or Reserve personnel) as demonstrated by a DD-214 and transcript, or an active-duty student as demonstrated by submitting Active Duty orders, a Memorandum of Understanding from your commanding officer confirming that you are currently in good standing with your unit, and transcript.
6. Have an honorable discharge or is in good standing with their branch of the military

Required Documents

To complete your application, you must provide the following documents:

1. A current copy of a resume or CV
2. An unofficial copy of current university transcripts
3. Two letters of reference from a professor, adviser, or supervisor
4. DD 214
5. Three short essays (500 words each). Essay questions: 
   1. Please give us one example of how you have exhibited leadership. Explain what you were trying to achieve, your role, how you influenced others, and the impact as a result of your actions. Think broadly and examine the many ways you are having an effect on the members of the different communities you are a part of. Keep in mind, the example you choose does not need to be a formal or traditional leadership role.
   2. What is a significant challenge that impacts student veterans in the technology field, and what do you believe is the root cause of this challenge? What actions have you taken to address this challenge? Keep in mind that impact can happen in many ways and at different scales. Please focus at least half of your response on the actions you have taken.
   3. Describe any financial circumstances affecting your need for a scholarship. In your answer be sure to describe any obstacles you have overcome to get to where you are today. What goals will this scholarship enable you to accomplish?

When is the Google SVA Scholarship Application Date?

Applications for the Google SVA Scholarship open in March and close in April.

John Edelman Scholars Scholarship

John Edelman is dedicated to promoting mental health education for veterans and active-duty military personnel.

How Much is the John Edelman Scholarship?

Qualified students will receive two $10,000 scholarship awards to pursue degrees/careers in mental health counseling.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

1. Currently enrolled in a university as an undergraduate or graduate student for the current academic year, or who has been accepted to or plans to enroll in a university in the United States as a full-time student for the current academic year.
2. Maintaining a high grade point average.
3. Earning a degree that will allow you to work as a mental health counselor or in related fields.
4. A current student veteran (including National Guard or Reserve personnel) as demonstrated by a DD-214 and transcript, or an active-duty student as demonstrated by submitting Active Duty orders, a Memorandum of Understanding from your commanding officer confirming that you are currently in good standing with your unit, and transcript.
5. Have an honorable discharge or is in good standing with their branch of the military

When is the John Edelman Scholarship Application Date?

Applications for the John Edelman Scholars Scholarship open in January and close in March.

Raytheon Technologies Patriot Scholarship

Student Veterans of America and Raytheon Technologies collaborated to award scholarships to students who have passion for their studies and demonstrate leadership qualities in their communities.

How Much is the Raytheon Technologies Patriot Scholarship?

Eligible students will each get two $10,000 scholarships. 

Who is Eligible?

Applicants must meet the following requirements to qualify:

1. Veterans of the Army enrolled at an approved four-year college or university to pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree.
2. A U.S. Army veteran
3. Either beginning their sophomore, junior, or senior year of undergraduate studies or be enrolled in a graduate program for the school year 2023–2024.
4. Enrolling full-time in a U.S. institution of higher learning with a four-year degree.
5. Show dedication to and enthusiasm for their chosen topic of study.
6. Show leadership and involvement in your community.
7. A current student veteran (including National Guard or Reserve personnel) as demonstrated by a DD-214 and transcript, 
8. Have an honorable discharge or is in good standing with their branch of the military

Required Documents

1. Current transcripts
2. Submit a video (2 minutes max) answering the following: 
   1. Explain your background, why did you join the military, and if applicable what is your experience using the Patriot system during your service.
   2. What are you studying now and what do you want to do with your career?
   3. What would receiving this scholarship award mean to you?

When is the Scholarship Application Date?

The Raytheon Technologies Patriot Scholarship application period begins in October and ends in April.

Raytheon Technologies SPY-6 Scholarship

The Raytheon Technologies SPY-6 Scholarship, named after the SPY-6 Family of Radars used by the U.S. Navy, gives service members the chance to further their education and prepare for success in the workforce.

How Much is the Raytheon Technologies SPY-6 Scholarship?

Sailors who go to an approved university to get a bachelor’s or master’s degree and show leadership in their community will each get two $10,000 scholarships. 

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the RTX SPY-6 scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

1. A veteran of the Navy/Navy Reserve
2. Own a current transcript proving you are a current student veteran.
3. Entering your sophomore, junior, or senior year of undergraduate studies, or be registered in a graduate program in the current academic year
4. Enrolling full-time in a U.S. institution of higher learning with a four-year degree.
5. Be a veteran in good standing, with an honorable discharge.
6. Provide a video (2 mins max) discussing:
   1. Demonstrated commitment to and passion for your chosen field of study
   2. Demonstrates leadership and engagement in your community
