What is the PSE Scholarship?

The PSE Scholarship aims to help Education Support Professionals and their dependents achieve their educational objectives. They will give out scholarships worth $20,000, this year to members in good standing or their dependents who intend to enroll in or attend school within 12 months, starting in June. 

This award offers financial support to dependents of PSE members, including grandchildren, who want to continue their education after high school. Financial need, academic success, leadership qualities, and community involvement are just a few of the criteria used to award scholarships.

Is the Scholarship Open for Application?

The Public School Employees Scholarship is open for application. Interested candidates can apply before the scholarship’s closing date.

PSE Scholarship Types

Member Scholarship

PSE members who want to advance their education or pursue new career aspirations can do so with the help of this scholarship. Scholarships are given out depending on a variety of criteria, such as financial need, academic success, leadership, and community service.

Eligibility Requirements

Be an active PSE member.

Plan to enroll in the educational opportunity or take part in it within the 12-month term starting in June at an accredited institution. Universities, community colleges, trade, and vocational schools, and courses provided by a local Educational Service District (ESD), are examples of accredited institutions. They also include courses for driver-trainers, mechanics, food service workers, office professionals, and other professional certification programs, such as the pursuit of a teaching certificate.

Dependent Scholarship

This award offers financial support to dependents of PSE members, including grandchildren, who want to continue their education after high school. Financial need, academic success, leadership qualities, and community involvement are just a few of the criteria used to award scholarships.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements: 

  • An IRS dependant of an active PSE member
  • They must be seniors in high school or similar (private school, privately tutored, GED, or recognized correspondence school), who intends to attend as a full-time student in an accredited college by the fall term after receiving the scholarship. 
  • Universities, community colleges, and trade and vocational schools are examples of accredited institutions.
  • Or, they must be currently enrolled in a college or university, community college, trade school, or other accredited undergraduate institution.

What Documents Do I Need to Provide?

  1. Complete application form
  2. Official transcript of records
  3. Two letters of recommendation
  4. Complete Federal Tax Form 1040 or 1040EZ or 1040A.
  5. Two essays: (1) A 50-100 word essay describing your educational goals. (2) A 100-150 word essay describing the positive impact the labor union movement has played in your life, your family’s life, or in the United States of America.

Approval Process

The PSE Scholarship Committee evaluates eligible applicants. Classified school personnel makes up the committee, which evaluates applications and chooses winners. Financial need is given the most weight by the committee (35 points). Additional requirements include letters of recommendation, perseverance/hardships, essays, activities, honors and awards, GPA, and transcripts, in that order of importance.

How Will I Receive the Scholarship Award?

Awards for scholarships will be made available in June. For the Dependent Scholarship, qualified applicants will receive them in September. Throughout the academic year, scholarship funds are disbursed by check, paid to the educational institution, and mailed to the beneficiary. Qualified applicants may receive the scholarship award as tuition, housing, and mileage reimbursement.

PSE Scholarship Closing Date (Deadline)

The scholarship application ends in April.

  • Download and fill out the application form. (Make sure to sign and date your application). When filling out the form, use “N/A” if not applicable to your situation. 
  • Provide supporting documents. (see them above)
  • Write the essays.
